Stern Overseeing His Last NBA Finals

MIAMI (AP) — David Stern is overseeing his last NBA Finals as the league's commissioner.

Stern will retire Feb. 1, ending a 30-year run overseeing a league that has exploded in size and stature since he took over. And he expects the last championship series of his tenure to be an exceptional one, saying the Miami-San Antonio matchup that was starting Thursday night "is probably the most anticipated finals in, who knows, 30 years."

Stern says he is not stopping to savor his last year quite yet. He remains very active in the league's business, and intends to stay with the league in some capacity after he retires and is replaced in the commissioner's chair by his longtime top lieutenant, Adam Silver.

Stern says he is leaving "the best job in the world."
