The Casper College Thunderbirds lost to 6th ranked Western Nebraska in 4 games in the home volleyball  opener for the T-Birds. Scores were 25-16, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-12.

It's the third time in this young season that the Birds have played a team ranked in the nations top 10 and have lost all 3 matches. Casper falls to 2-3 on the year and will be in Vernon, Texas for a tournament this weekend.

Both Casper schools will be on the road again this Friday night in week 2 of the football season. Kelly Walsh will be at Evanston in the Prep Game of the Week on AM 1400 ESPN. Both teams  lost  in the opening week. The Trojans lost at Cheyenne East 30-10 and Evanston lost at home to Gillette 37-24. Top ranked Natrona travels to 2nd ranked Sheridan. The Mustangs drilled Cheyenne South 69-8 and the Broncs came from behind to beat Cheyenne Central 33-28 with two field goals in the last 2 minutes of the game.

The latest 4A football poll from Wyopreps.com, coaches and media is out and there's no change in the top five. Natrona continues to be the choice at number one. The Mustangs were followed by Sheridan, Gillette, Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central. Week 2 of the season is Friday night with the rest of the high school football programs in the state getting their seasons under way this week.

The Colorado Rockies continue to play well defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 Tuesday night at Coors Field. Former Casper player Wilin Rosario hit his 22nd home run of the year. The Rockies long eliminated from the playoff picture chase have won 8 of their last 10 games. Rosario for his end of the deal had 3 hits and 3 RBI's.

The Washington Redskins have parted ways with tight end Chris Cooley. The 30 year old spent his entire 8 year career with the Redskins, but was hampered by injuries last season. During his career with the 'Skins Cooley had 3 seasons with at least 70 receptions and was a 2-year All-Pro. Cooley was born in Powell, Wyoming and lived their until about the 6th grade before moving to Utah.
