State Basketball

In what was surprising to very few people, the Natrona County Fillies defeated the girls from Campbell County, 60-33.  They are the only team from Casper to advance to the finals of the state basketball tournament, and they will face the winner of the Evanston/Laramie game to for the 4A State Title. The NC girls made Casper proud, and they should be proud of themselves as well.

The  Kelly Walsh Trojans played their hearts at this weekend, but unfortunately, so did Cheyenne East, which is why they came out on top in a hard fought game. The final score of 62-44 should have no bearing on how hard both teams worked.

In their final game of the tournament, the NC Mustangs were defeated by their Wind River Rivals, with a score of 63-46. It was a hard game, and a hard loss for the Mustangs, but they proved that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

In what can only be described as heartbreaking, the KW boys suffered a loss to the Sheridan boys by one point. With a final score of 49-48, the Trojans lost the battle, but they won the hearts and admiration of those in attendance. It was a tough loss, but still a game that the boys in green can be proud of.

The heart of the KW girls cannot be denied, as they showed it off throughout the entire game against Laramie on Thursday. Unfortunately for the lady Trojans, they lost, 49-35. That, coupled with a loss to Sheridan on Friday took them out of the tournament. But their heart cannot be denied; nor can their skill.

When the final buzzer rang out, and the final bead of sweat dripped down their foreheads, the NC Mustangs left their hearts on the court. They lost to the Gillette Camels in an excellent game, but they won the hearts of the fans in attendance. As State Basketball kicks off,  the NC girls continue to remain undefeated, as they picked off Cheyenne East with relative ease, beating them 64-36. Despite the score, it was a hard fought win, and the Cheyenne East girls have nothing to be ashamed of. The Fillies, however, have everything to be proud of. They worked hard, they played hard, and they won...hard.

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming High School Activities Association has approved an alternative schedule for the Class 4A/3A state basketball tournaments. The alternative schedule will be used if Casper College hosts a postseason women's junior college regional tournament on the same weekend as the state high school tournament...

In the first game of the day, the Natrona County Fillies dominated the Star Valley Lady Braves for much of the game. Both teams showed tremendous heart, but the lady Braves could simply not compete with the NC Fillies. The final score of the game was 54-31...
