UW Track Inks 2 In-State Products

University of Wyoming head track and field coach Bryan Berryhill announced Tuesday that Jerayah Davis and Jackson Wood will compete for the Cowgirls and Cowboys in 2015-16. Davis, a native of Casper, Wyo., has accepted a scholarship and will transfer from the University of Southern California, while Wood recently signed a National Letter of Intent after completing his prep career at Cheyenne Central High School.

“We are very happy that Jerayah and Jackson have decided to represent the University of Wyoming,” Berryhill said. “Jereyah is a versatile athlete that can be valuable to us in multiple events, while excelling in the classroom as well. Jackson barely tapped into his talent in his first track season, so we’re excited to help him build on that. Both will be a source of pride for Wyoming track fans for years to come.”

Davis finished her prep career at Kelly Walsh High School in 2014 and is one of the most decorated prep athletes in the Equality State’s history. She was an 11-time state champion, including all four years in the 100 and 200 meters, and three-time winner of the Gatorade Wyoming Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year. As a senior, Davis won the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump at the state meet. She went on to place 11^th in the long jump at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, before redshirting the 2014-15 season at USC. She owns personal bests of 11.63 in the 100 meters, 23.79 in the 200 meters, 55.73 in the 400 meters, 5-5 in the high jump and 19-6 in the long jump. Her time in the 200 was at the 2013 state meet and is still an all-time Wyoming high school record. She graduated high school with a 3.93 grade-point average. Davis will be eligible to compete immediately for the Cowgirls and will have four years of eligibility.

Wood’s first season of track and field was his senior year at Cheyenne Central in 2014-15. He ran 1:56.89 to place fourth in the 800 meters at the Class 4A state meet, while finishing runner-up in the 400 at 48.42. Wood played soccer for the Indians the previous three years.

Davis and Wood join a UW track and field program with a large contingent of Wyoming natives, including five other Kelly Walsh alumni and five other Cheyenne Central alumni. UW’s 2015 recruiting class now totals 29 signees from 12 states and two countries, including seven from Wyoming.
