What’s In A Wyoming Name? – Fort Bridger

They called him the Daniel Boone of the Rockies. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Jim Bridger became one of the West’s leading mountain men. He helped establish his own fur company, built a trading post on the Green River, and served as a guide and Army scout. Noted for his tall tales, he once said that in what’s now Yellowstone Park, he saw petrified birds in petrified trees sing petrified songs. He helped early settlers find their way – and gave a name to Fort Bridger, Wyoming.
