The Wyoming Cowgirls are back in the WNIT and will host New Mexico State Thursday at the Arena-Auditorium. The game will start at 6:30 p.m.

It’s the second consecutive season the Cowgirls are making an appearance in this post-season tournament and seventh under head coach Joe Legerski in 15 seasons. UW won the WNIT in 2007. They advanced to the second round last year after a win over Seattle (68-52), but lost in overtime to Washington State (68-67).

Legerski was thankful for this opportunity in a release from the university.

“I am happy for our players and excited to be in the WNIT field. This is a great opportunity for our team and the challenge will be tremendous. To be able to host a game, speaks volumes of our administration and fan base."

Wyoming (21-10) finished third the in the Mountain West Conference this season and received an at-large selection.

New Mexico State (18-12) was the automatic qualifier from the Western Athletic Conference. The Aggies won the regular season conference title, but lost to Seattle in the conference tournament semifinals.

The Cowgirls are 8-14 all-time against New Mexico State. They haven’t played in women’s basketball since the 1989-90 season. The last meeting was a 69-64 UW victory March 1, 1990 when both teams were part of the High Country Athletic Conference (HCAC).
