Wyoming Native Competing For Spot On U.S. Olympic Speed Skating Team
Just two years after graduating from Burns High School, Brianna Bocox is gearing up for a run at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
The Cheyenne native is now attending school at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Brianna was competitive in sports throughout school including basketball, volleyball, and track and field. However, she independently sought out a sport not many from Wyoming think of as an option, speed skating.
Bocox has been skating since 2010 and has hoped to compete on the sports largest stage, the Olympics.
Her first opportunity to compete for team USA happens this week. She'll race in three different events at the Olympic trails in Milwaukee. The NBC Sports Network will air television coverage of the event. You can watch her attempt to qualify at the following times:
Wednesday, Jan 3 4:00 p.m. MST - 1,000 meter race
Friday, Jan 5 4:00 p.m. MST - 500 meter race
Saturday, Jan 6 4:00 p.m. MST - 1,500 meter race
The 2018 winter games happen from February 9 through February 25 in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
