San Francisco disposed of Arizona 24-3 Monday night. With the win the 49ers improved to 6-2. 49er quarterback Alex Smith had an outstanding night passing going 18 of 19 and 3 touchdowns. The Niner defense held the Cardinals to just 7 yards rushing. Arizona fell to 4-4 on the season.

In Junior College volleyball, the Region-IX Tournament will begin Wednesday at Northwest College in Powell. Casper College is the 4th seed and will meet 5th seeded Eastern Wyoming at 2:00pm. The T-Birds are 19-16 on the year going into the tournament. The Region-IX tourney will be without Central Wyoming of Riverton who will not participate after using an ineligible player this season. CWC was nationally ranked at times this season. The tournament will be  double elimination and will conclude on Saturday.

The Wyoming Cowgirls played their first exhibition game of the season Monday night defeating Dakota Wesleyan 78-53 at the AA in Laramie. Chaundra Sewell led the way for UW with 17 points. Kayla Woodward (Sheridan) and Ashley Sickles each had 15. The Cowgirls will have another exhibition game Monday night against Regis at the AA.

The Wyoming high school football playoffs continue this Friday with semifinal action. In 4A, top ranked Natrona will play host to  4th ranked Cheyenne East. The Mustangs (10-0) won their opening round game over Rock Springs 54-6. East (7-3) took care of cross town rival Central 45-6. Natrona defeated East in the regular season game 34-2 on Sept. 28th at Mustang Stadium. kickoff is at 7:00pm with the pregame show at 6:45 on AM 1400 ESPN.

The other 4A semifinal has 3rd ranked Sheridan at number 2 Gillette. The Camels (9-1) ended  Evanston's season 42-16 and the Broncs (8-2) beat Kelly Walsh 35-14. Sheridan missed a last second field goal back on Sept. 28th and lost at home to Gillette 21-18.Semifinal winners will match up in the state championship on Saturday November 10th at War Memorial Stadium at the University of Wyoming at 4:00pm.
