Prep Game Of The Week: Kelly Walsh At Gillette-Daily Sports Update

Two of the top five teams in 4A football match up this Friday in the Prep Game of the Week. 5th ranked Kelly Walsh will be 2nd ranked Gillette. The Trojans (2-1) registered their second straight shutout last Friday night beating Laramie 50-0. The Camels (3-0) beat Cheyenne East in a high scoring affair 48-35 in a game where both combined for 923 yards. Kickoff is at 7:00pm with the pregame show at 6:45 on AM 1400 ESPN. Top ranked Natrona (3-0) will play host to Rock Springs (1-2) at 7pm. Other match ups involving top five teams in the state include two in 3A with number 2 Douglas (2-0) at 3rd ranked Star Valley (2-0), and 4th ranked Green River (1-1) at 5th ranked Buffalo (1-1). The two top teams in 2A football will meet in a rematch of last season's state championship won by Lovell. The top ranked Bulldogs (2-0) travel to number 2 Lyman (2-0). In 1A, 3rd ranked Southeast (0-1) will be at 2nd ranked Lusk ( 2-0). And in 6-Man, number 2 Snake River (1-1) who saw their 23-game win streak snapped by Dubois last Friday will be at 5th ranked Guernsey (2-0).

The Colorado Rockies lost to the San Francisco 8-3. Giant pitcher Tim Lincecum threw 6 good innings and now has won 5 straight road games. Former Rockie Marco Scuturo had 3 hits as the Giants. The Giants are 21-7 on the road since the All-Star break. Colorado starter Jeff Francis allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in just 3 innings of work. The Rockies has today off before heading to San Diego for a weekend series starting tomorrow night.

Longtime Connecticut Head Coach Jim Calhoun has retired after 26 years on the job. He's won 873 games in 40 years as a head coach and won 3 national titles at UCONN. But the Huskies also in a world of trouble thanks to academic woes that will prevent them from Participating in this year's NCAA tournament.

More college conference shuffling as Notre Dame is going to join the ACC, kind of. They'll remain independent in football, but play 5 ACC teams per season. All other sports will leave the Big East Conference and join the ACC. But the Big East rules rules state  that a team leaving the conference must give them 27 months notice.
