Barry Bonds Found Guilty of Obstruction
Barry Bonds, the seven-time Major League Baseball MVP, was found guilty of obstruction of justice by a jury of 8 women and 4 men in San Francisco today.
Bonds had been charged with obstruction of justice as well as 3 counts of lying to a grand jury. The defense and prosecution agreed to declare a mistrial on the three counts of lying to a grand jury, to which the judge believed to be a proper decision.
Prosecutors alleged that Bonds had lied and knowingly took steroids and HGH (human growth hormone), then gave false statements and hindered a federal grand jury investigation.
Bonds' case was the culmination of an investigation by federal prosecutors that began when federal authorities looked into Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, distributor of performance enhancing drugs to college and professional athletes.
