A Casper man was arrested Sunday after police allegedly found him driving while under the influence of alcohol with a child in the back seat of the car.

Matthew A. Jenkins, 36, was booked into jail on recommended charges of driving while under the influence, DUI with a child passenger, violation of probation and interference with a peace officer.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, a police officer had seen Jenkins's vehicle parked in the middle of the road in the 1100 Block of North Jackson. The vehicle continued driving through north Casper, committing a number of traffic violations.

The first officer to contact Jenkins reported smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and allegedly saw multiple open alcoholic beverage containers next to a child in the rear passenger seat.

Jenkins and Lisa Blevins, the two adults in the vehicle, were both on state probation at the time, police say.

Jenkins performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. He reportedly claimed that the odor of alcohol resulted from a fourth person who had been in the car spilling vodka on Jenkins's pants.

The child was taken into protective custody and was placed with her grandfather.

In reviewing Jenkins's criminal history, police noted he was previously convicted of DUI in 2000, 2004 and 2007.

Jenkins reportedly refused to comply with a search warrant for a sample of his blood for the purpose of determining alcohol content.
