Cheyenne police will start cracking down on downtown parking violations next month.

Beginning March 12, parking enforcement community service officers will begin strictly enforcing the parking signs as they're posted.

"In the next couple of weeks people are going to get written warnings and then we'll start with the tickets," said Chief Brian Kozak.

"The reason we're doing written warnings is because in the past maybe there were agreements not to write tickets in certain areas to certain people, and now that we took that on, the police department, we don't play favoritism," Kozak added.

To avoid being ticketed, people are encouraged to buy a $25 monthly pass from the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority.

Daily passes are also available for $4 and can be purchased through the City Clerk's Office.
