The two top teams in the National League West Division started a three game series Monday night as Arizona beat Colorado 5-1 at Coors Field in Denver. Diamondback pitcher Patrick Corbin improved to 7-0 on the year as he tossed a 3-hitter for his complete game of the season and struck out 10. Corbin and Randy Johnson are the only 2 Arizona left handers to start a season 7-0. Troy Tulowitski, Nolan Arenado and Jordan Pacheco recorded those hits. Colorado is 24-21 and drops 2 games in back of Arizona in the NL West Division. Game 2 of the series is tonight.

In the Stanley Cup playoffs from Monday night, Detroit beat Chicago 3-1 to go up 2 games to 1 in their best of 7 series. The Wings with 2 goals in 31 seconds in the 2nd period of the game.

Reports are circulating that Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy will be named the new head coach of the Colorado Avalanche. Roy's brother told the Denver Post that the 2 sides are discussing the final arrangements. The Av's fired head coach Joe Sacco after the team finished last the NHL's Western Conference. The Avalanche also installed Hall of Famer Joe Sakic as the Executive Vice President of Hockey operations.
