UPDATE  9:00 p.m.): Glenrock Police were not able to offer any details on the standoff itself as the DCI and Casper tactical units took over the operation fairly early on. They could provide no information on the identity of the man in the house, what he might have been charged with or how the operation ended.

We will try to get more information from the other agencies.

UPDATE (2:44 p.m.):

The Glenrock Independent reports the lockout of Grant Elementary School and Glenrock High School is due to a police standoff in Oregon Trail Estates.

The house in question, at 158 Fort Laramie, has been under police surveillance for several hours with reports of a fire, as well as gunshots, according to the newspaper.

===============================================

Glenrock schools went into lockout Thursday afternoon at the request of the Glenrock Police Department.

Coley Shadrick, superintendent of Converse County School District No. 2, said police are dealing with an unspecified situation. Because that situation occurred near the time students are set to be let out of school, Shadrick said, police thought it best to impose the lockout.

The lockout went into effect at roughly 2:10 p.m.

No one at the Glenrock Police Department was immediately available to detail the situation. A person who answered the phone said everyone there is busy dealing with the call.

"We've got a message going out to parents that we're not going to release kids until we get the all-clear from the PD," Shadrick said.

Shadrick did not have a timeline for when that might be.

In a lockout, a school building's perimeter doors are secured and no one is allowed to enter or exit the building. Inside, classes and other school activities continue as usual.

This story will be updated as further details are made available.
