The Natrona Mustangs won the 47th Oil Bowl Game Friday night defeating cross-town rival Kelly Walsh 49-6. The top-ranked Mustangs remain unbeaten going to 5-0 and the Trojans fall to 0-5.

The Mustangs were led again by the number one defense in 4A football who limited the Trojans to 174 yards total offense, 77 of that on a touchdown pass from Jacob Tapp to Terry Jackson in the second quarter. The Mustangs got plenty of offense from Cody Vollmar who total 325 yards in total yards, including a 92 yard punt return for a touchdown, a 99 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half. Vollmar also ran in from 1 yard out and threw a 43-yard TD pass to Josh Flanigan. Speaking of Flanigan, he accounted for four touchdowns and rushed for 154 yards on 18 carries.

Natrona (5-0) travels to Cheyenne East (4-1) on Friday for the Prep Game Of The Week on AM 1400 ESPN. Kelly Walsh (0-5) will be at home to face Rock Springs (1-4).

The Wyoming Cowboys lost their first game of the season to the ninth ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers Saturday night 38-14 at War Memorial Stadium. The third largest crowd in Cowboys history witness a game where Wyoming trailed at halftime 14-7. But in the second half the Huskers took over with a very good rushing attack, which accounted for over 300 yards. The Cowboys had 305 yards in total offense, their lowest totals this season. The Pokes have this weekend off before playing at Utah State on Saturday Oct. 8th. Nebraska, the newest member of the Big Ten will be at Wisconsin for a much anticipated matchup.

The Denver Broncos drop to 1-2 on the year after a 17-14 road loss at Tennessee. Titans Quarterback Matt Hasselback threw a four yard touchdown to Daniel Grahamn with 4:30 to go in the fourth quarter to put the Titans up for good.  Hasselback threw for 311 yards which by the way was more yardage than the Broncos could muster in total offense. Denver QB Kyle Orton threw two interceptions and was sacked once.

Wyoming High School golf completed the fall season on Saturday with their state tournaments. In the 4A at Riverton, team titles went to Natrona in the girls and the Sheridan boys. The 3A tournament was held in Rawlins where the home team won the girls and Powell captured the boys. And the 2A state golf tournament was held in Kemmerer with the Lusk boys and the Moorcroft girls earning team titles. State tournaments continue this weekend with the state tennis tournaments in Gillette.
