At the London Olympic Games, American Missy Franklin had quite a night in the pool. After qualifying for the finals of the  200 meter freestyle, she came back some 14 minutes later and captured gold by winning the 100 meter backstroke.

Franklin who lives in Aurora, Colorado, went to Regis Jesuit High School. Michael Phelps could become the Olympic games all-time medal winner if he places in today's 200 meter butterfly, an event he's won the last two Olympics and is a member of today's 800-meter relay. Phelps is currently the holder of 17 medals including a record 8 gold medals in the 2008 Olympics.

Wyoming Cowboy football player Sam Stratton will miss the 2012 season after suffering an injury during winter conditioning that required surgery. He's a sophomore from Littleton, Colorado. Stratton rushed for 49 yards last season, and had 3 receptions for 28 yards. The Pokes will begin practicing on Monday in Laramie, the first of 25 practices leading up to the season opener at Texas on Sept. lst.

The Wyoming American Legion Baseball Tournaments begin Wednesday at Mike Lansing Field  in Casper. Rock Springs will meet defending champion Cheyenne at 4pm in the Class AA Tournament,  followed by the Casper Oilers and Gillette at 7:30pm. The State Class A also opens Wednesday at Lansing Field. At 9:30am Cody will play defending champion Wheatlnd, followed by Laramie and Sheridan at 12:30pm. The overall champion will be crowned on Sunday afternoon when the AA champion will take on the A champ.
