The Colorado Rockies lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 Tuesday night in Phoenix. Diamondback pitcher Joe Saunders scattered 3 hits over 7 innings of work.Saunders struck out 9 Rockie batters and walked one. The Rockies have dropped the first two games of this series and 6 of their last 7 games. The Rockies and D-Backs play again tonight in Phoenix.

The Casper Cutthroats beat Cheyenne on the road 5-4 in the regular season finale Tuesday night. Pitcher Josh Freeman picked up the win. Nick Fisher drove in a couple of runs. But the Cutthroats did suffer a setback as they lost Colt McLaughlin considered their best player. McLaughlin ran into the outfield wall chasing a fly ball and broke his collarbone. He was leading the team in home runs with 9. The Cutthroats who qualified for the playoffs earlier in the week will now wait to see if they will be seeded first or second. Cheyenne plays Fort Collins in a doubleheader today. If Fort Collins loses one of those games, Casper will finish first. If Fort Collins sweeps the twinbill, Casper will finish second.

In American Legion baseball, the Casper Oilers drilled Rock Springs 27-1 on Tuesday night. The Oilers are now 35-31 and will be in Cheyenne Thursday. The Oilers will host the State American Legion Baseball Tournament starting next Wednesday August 1st.

In college football, the preseason Mountain West Conference Media Poll came out and the Wyoming Cowboys were picked to finish fourth with Boise State picked to finish first. League newcomers Nevada and Fresno State were picked second and third respectively. The Cowboys put three players on the preseason all-conference team. Offensive lineman Nick Carlson, defensive tackle Mike Purcell and safety Luke Ruff. The preseason player of the year in the Mountain West Conference is Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr, and the defensive players of the year is Leon McFadden of San Diego State. The Cowboys begin practice next week with the season kicking off on Saturday September 1st at Texas.

Several Denver Broncos spent time visiting survivors of the Aurora theater shooting. They visited with patients and emergency room personal at the Medical Center in Aurora. The Broncos head to preseason camp later this week.
