The Colorado Rockies picked up a rare home win on Monday night as they beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-6 at Coors Field. The Rockies jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held on.

D.J. Lemahieu led the Rockies hitting attack with four hits. Colorado banged out 15 hits in the game and every position player had at least one. Carlos Gonzoles also contributed from the plate with three hits including a home run. The Rockies also broke a four game losing streak at home. Game two tonight at Coors Field.

The Wyoming Cowboy football team continues their practices as they get ready for the season opener on Saturday Sept. 1st when they play at Texas. The Pokes have a sensational quarterback in Brett Smith who was named the Mountain West Conference Freshmen of the Year last season. Smith accumulated over 3300 yards of all purpose yardage, which broke a conference record for freshmen. Smith was bugged by a few injuries and sat out all of  spring drills. Also UW running back Nehemie Konkolongo will be out 4-6 weeks with an arm injury. He played in five games last season as a freshman.

In Hockey, the Colorado Avalanche have signed goalie Sean Sebastion Giguere to a one year contract extention. The 35-year old appeared in 32 games last year and posted a goals against average of 2.27, the lowest of any Avalanche goalie since 2005.
