Sharks Remain Unbeaten – NHL News And Notes For January 30th

UNDATED (AP) — The San Jose Sharks remain one of the NHL's two unbeaten teams following a comeback win over Anaheim.

Michal Handzuz (HAND'-zoos) had the lone shootout goal and Antti Niemi (AN'-tee nee-EH'-mee) stopped 28 shots as the Sharks nipped the Ducks 3-2 to improve to 6-0, tying Chicago for the league's best record. Anaheim was trying to close out a 2-1 victory until Logan Couture (koo-TYOOR') scored with 2:45 left in regulation.

Patrick Marleau was held to one assist after scoring nine times in the Sharks' first five games.

Brad Marchand allowed the Boston Bruins to remain unbeaten in regulation this season.

The Bruins are 5-0-1 after Marchand notched the deciding shootout goal in a 2-1 triumph over New Jersey. The Devils led 1-0 until Nathan Horton scored with 4:05 left in the third period.

Boston leads the NHL's Eastern Conference with 11 points, one more than Tampa Bay.

The Lightning kept pace as Steven Stamkos scored his fourth goal and Anders Lindback stopped 26 shots in Tampa Bay's 5-2 verdict over Florida. Cory Conacher and Vincent Lecavalier (leh-KAV'-uhl-yay) each had a goal and an assist as the Lightning improved to 5-1.

Also in the NHL, Matt Moulson had a goal and an assist as the New York Islanders whipped Pittsburgh 4-1. Evgeni Nabokov (nah-BAH'-kahv) made 17 of his 36 saves in the final period and came within 69 seconds of posting the Isles' first shutout of the Pens in 27 years.

Michael Del Zotto (dehl ZAH'-toh) had a goal and an assist to support Hendrik Lunqvist's 26 saves in the New York Rangers' 2-1 triumph over Philadelphia. Ryan Callahan scored the game-winner on power play before leaving the game with an apparent left arm injury.

Valtteri Filppula (val-TEHR'-ee FIHL'-poo-lah) scored twice on assists by Pavel Datsyuk (DAHT'-sook), including the game-winner in Detroit's 4-1 downing of Dallas. Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner also tallied for the Red Wings.

Minnesota's three-game losing streak is over after Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored the tiebreaking tally late in the third period of the Wild's 3-2 win over Columbus. Mikko Koivu (MEE'-koh KOY'-voo) and Tom Gilbert also scored for Minnesota.

Toronto beat Buffalo 4-3 on Matt Frattin's (FRAT'-ihnz) goal with 1.5 seconds left in overtime. Frattin scored twice as the Maple Leafs ended a two-game skid.

Ottawa spotted Washington a 2-0 lead before beating the Capitals 3-2 on Sergei Gonchar's power-play goal with 2 ½ minutes left. Craig Anderson made 31 saves and blanked the Caps over the final 42 minutes.

Tomas Plekanec (pleh-KAH'-nehch) scored the tiebreaking goal at 5:31 of the third period to give Montreal a 4-3 victory against Winnipeg. Andrei Markov assisted on the first and last goals to help the Canadiens improve to 4-1.
