The Wyoming State American Legion Baseball Tournament is underway in Cheyenne. The Casper Oilers played Wheatland in the opening game this morning(9:30).

The Oilers are 31-35 going into the state tournament after finishing third in the North Division Tournament in Gillette last week. The rest of the schedule has Laramie and Sheridan in game two followed by Torrington and Gillette. Defending state champion Cheyenne Post 6 and Douglas will play at 7:30pm tonight. The tournament continues through the weekend.

The Casper Ghosts snapped a seven game losing streak Tuesday night when they beat Helena 13-7 in Pioneer League action. David Kandalis went 4 for 6, Trevor Story went 3 for 5 with a home run and 4 RBI's. Will Swanner with a home run as Casper had 18 hits in the contest. It was the Ghosts 10th win of the season. The Ghosts and Brewers will wrap up their series and the first half of the season tonight. Game time at 7:05pm on AM 1400 ESPN.

The Mountain West Conference with their media day Tuesday in Las Vegas. In the pre-season poll, the Wyoming Cowboys were picked to finished sixth, which is about right considering there were 3-9 a year ago and will have a freshmen starting quarterback, either Adam Pittser or Brett Smith. Defensive lineman Josh Biezuns was named pre season all-conference. Biezuns was the only Cowboy selected. Boise State was picked to win the league thanks to 13 returning starters and pre season offensive player of the year Kellen Moore. TCU was picked to finished second after winning the Rose Bowl last year. They have the pre season defensive player of the year in Tank Carder.

And Clayton Kershaw won his fourth straight start and Matt Kemp had two rbi's to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Colorado Rockies. The two teams wrap up their series tonight. The Rockies have tomorrow off before playing San Diego starting Friday night.
