State Track & Soccer Begins Today-Daily Sports Update
The Wyoming State Track and Soccer Events get under way today in Casper, Rock Springs and Jackson. The State Track and Field Meet gets under way this morning at Harry Geldein Stadium at Kelly Walsh High School. The main event on the track today will be the 3200 meters with various field events throughout the day. In Class 4A, the Kelly Walsh girls are looking to 3-peat as state champions and have Jerayah Davis to pick up a massive amount of points. Davis won 3 events last year, the 100, 200 and the long jump. The Natrona girls with a terrific athlete in freshmen Lauren Talbert. In 4A boys, Natrona and Kelly Walsh went 1-2 in last weeks West Regional. Gillette ran away with the East Regional. Events continue through Saturday.
The State Soccer Tournaments get under way today. The 3A will be played in Jackson and the 4A in Rock Springs. In the 4A boys, Natrona the 4th seed from the west will take on east champion Gillette at 9am. The NC boys are 4-13 and the Camels are 13-2-2. The Kelly Walsh boys champions in the west take on 4th seed from the east Cheyenne Central at 3:30pm. KW is 8-5-3 and Central is 9-6-1.
In the 4A girls tournament, Natrona is the 2nd seed from the west is 12-3-1 and they will face Cheyenne Central at 11am. Central comes in at 8-5-3. Kelly Walsh is the 3rd seed from the west and they will play the number 2 seed from the east in Cheyenne East at 1:30pm. KW is 10-7 on the year and East is 11-3-3. Kelly Walsh soccer player April Taylor signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to play at Western Wyoming in Rock Springs. The state soccer tournaments continue through Saturday.
The Colorado Rockies lost to the Chicago Cubs 6-3 Wednesday at Wrigley Field to take 2 of 3 in that series. Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija threw 8 good innings and also homered in the game. The Rockies return home for a 4 game series with San Francisco starting tonight at Coors Field.
In the NBA playoffs, Miami eliminated Chicago 94-91 in the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday night in Miami. The Heat wins the series 4 games to 1. Lebron James led the Heat with 23 points for the Heat who rallied from 11 points down to advance to the conference finals. In the Western Conference semifinals, Memphis advances to the conference finals for the first time ever eliminated top seeded Oklahoma City with a 88-84 win Wednesday night. The Grizzlies win the series 4-1. Zach Randolph led Memphis with 28 points and 14 rebounds.
