Hoosiers lead the way

UNDATED (AP) — Top-ranked Indiana leads the way in college basketball this evening. The 24-3 Hoosiers are facing the Golden Gophers at Minnesota. In this week's poll, which was released yesterday, Indiana was one vote shy of being a unanimous No. 1 pick. The Hoosiers are occupying the top spot for a fourth straight week and 10th time this season.

Rounding out the rest of tonight's schedule, No. 8 Florida is at Tennessee, 17th-ranked Wisconsin is home to Nebraska and Memphis, the 19th-ranked school, is on the road for a game at Xavier (ZAYV'-yur).

NBA-SCHEDULE

Eight game schedule in pro hoops

UNDATED (AP) — Miami and Indiana, the top two teams in the Eastern Conference of the NBA, are in action tonight. The Heat will put their 40-14 record up against visiting Sacramento, while the 35-21 Pacers are home to Golden State. The Heat start the night with an 11-game winning streak, tops in the NBA right now. On the home floor Miami is almost unbeatable with wins in 24 of their 27 games.

The Clippers are almost as good at home as they are 22-6. Tonight the Clips are playing host to Charlotte.

By the way, there are four teams with at least 40 wins in the NBA and the Clippers and Heat are two of them. The other two are San Antonio and Oklahoma City.

The rest of tonight's card has Orlando playing at Philadelphia, Chicago at home to Cleveland, Brooklyn at New Orleans, the Bucks in Dallas against the Mavs and Minnesota at Phoenix.

NHL-SCHEDULE

An off night for the league's top team

UNDATED (AP) — The story in the NHL isn't so much who is playing tonight, it's who is not. The amazing Chicago Blackhawks have the night off after racking up two more points last night. The Blackhawks stretched their NHL-record season-opening point streak to 19 games with a comeback win against the visiting Edmonton Oilers. The Hawks have won six straight and nine of 10. They are 16-0-3 on the season, good for 35 points and the lead in the Western Conference and the Central Division.

As far as tonight's schedule is concerned Pittsburgh can take over first place in the Eastern Conference with a win over Florida. The Penguins start the day a point back of idle Montreal. In the Atlantic Division Pittsburgh leads New Jersey by two points. The Devils have the night off as well.

There could be change at the top of the Southeast Division as the two teams tied for the lead are in action. Both Carolina and Tampa Bay have 19 points and the Hurricanes are at Washington tonight while the Lightning are home to Buffalo.

The rest of the schedule has Dallas at Columbus, the Rangers home to Winnipeg, the Islanders home to Boston, Calgary at Minnesota, Phoenix at Vancouver and San Jose home to Colorado.

NORTH KOREA-DENNIS RODMAN

Basketball Hall of Famer visiting isolated country

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — Dennis Rodman is doing his part for world peace.

The former NBA All-Star and Basketball Hall of Famer is in North Korea with three members of the Harlem Globetrotters for a video being produced for HBO. The man behind the project says the Americans hope to engage in some "basketball diplomacy."

When shown a photo of Rodman with piercings hanging from his lower lip and two massive chest tattoos, one North Korean said, "he looks like a monster."
