The current life expectancy in the United States is 78.74 years. The United States, however, only ranks 31st in life expectancy by country. People in Japan are living 6 years more on average with an expectancy of 83.7.

A new study from JamanNetwork has broken down the life expectancy of Americans by state.

The research suggests that Minnesotans live the longest, averaging 78.7 years. Californians are just a tenth of a year behind at 78.6 years. Connecticut, Hawaii, and Colorado round out the top 5.

Wyoming unfortunately ranks in the bottom half of the states, coming in 29th place and averaging 76.2 years.

The lowest life expectancy states include Oklahoma, Louisiana, West Virginia, Alabama, and in very last, Mississippi at 71.8 years.
