The Casper Oilers were shutout by Cheyenne Post 6 Tuesday evening 5-0. The Oilers return home Friday night when they host Cheyenne.

The Casper Drillers are playing in their District Class A American Legion Tournament  in Powell. The defeated Lovell in first round action Wednesday 7-4. They play Powell today in the winner's bracket.

The Casper Cutthroats ended up getting the top seed in the upcoming playoff series with Fort Collins without a game being played. The Fort Collins/Cheyenne doubleheader in Cheyenne was cancelled due to rain. So the Mountain Collegiate Championship best of 3 Series between Casper and Fort Collins will begin on Friday night in Fort Collins at 6:15pm. Game 2 will be played at Mike Lansing Field Saturday night at 6:00pm with a game 3 if necessary also in Casper on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.

The 116th Annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo continues today. On Wednesday, the third group of competitors began their quest to gain the finals on Sunday. Fomer Casper College cowboy and Cowley native J.R. Vezain got off to a great start in the bareback with an 88, which placed him a top of the leader board in the first go round. Vezain is currently 6th in the world.

In Major League baseball, the Colorado Rockies salvaged one win in their series with Arizona, winning Wednesday night 4-2. Former Casper player Dexter Fowler went 3 fo 4 with a triple. Another former Casper player Wilin Rosario connected on a home run and pitcher Jeff Francis worked 6 innings, giving up 2 runs and 5 hits. The Rockies have today off before hosting Cincinnati for a weekend series starting Friday night.

In college football, Penn State is still trying to digest the penalties that were hannded down after the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. The NCAA fined the school $60 million, banned the program from bowl games for 4 years and reduced scholarships by 20 for each of the 4 years, plus vacated 112 wins dating back to 1998. The Penn State Board of Trustees were not happy that the school signed such an agreement with the NCAA until the found out that the NCAA was considering giving Penn State the death penalty for 4 years. Some 30 players have come out and said they'll remain with the Penn State football program, while other schools are actiively recruiting Nittany Lion players who can transfer without any penalties.
