A woman was arrested early Saturday morning after Casper police found that she allegedly stole a man's vehicle and personal property.

Maria Mack, 35, was booked into jail on a recommended charge of felony theft.

According to the affidavit filed in the case, the victim called police shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday from his room at the Motel 6. He said his 2008 Jeep Patriot was missing, as were his wallet and phone.

The victim reported that at about 6 p.m. Friday, he went to a liquor store on Poplar Street and saw a woman who looked "destitute." He asked her if she needed anything, and she reportedly said she needed a place to sleep and a shower.

The victim gave the woman a ride to his motel room, he told police, and then he fell asleep around 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. When the man woke up, his car keys, wallet and phone were gone. His vehicle was no longer in the parking lot.

He gave police a description of his property and of the woman, whose name he did not know.

The investigating officer went to the 600 block of Ash to look for the vehicle. Near Ash and 7th, a woman -- Mack -- flagged down the officer. She was acting strangely, and the officer told her that he could not give her a ride.

Mack later approached the officer again. A search of her person turned up a set of keys, one of which looked like the key to a Jeep.

The Jeep was later found in a parking lot across from Racca's Pizzeria. The key found on Mack was confirmed as a match to the vehicle.

Mack claimed that she had no knowledge of the stolen vehicle, and said she had not been at Motel 6. Mack was arrested and taken to jail.
