Drivers with illegal LED light bars mounted on their vehicles should expect to receive a ticket for operating such devices on city streets, according to a statement from city authorities.

The Casper Police Department reported receiving several complaints regarding the use of such devices on the front of passenger vehicles, according to Sgt. Jeff Bullard.

"We recognize this is a trend that has use for work and recreation," Bullard said Friday. "However when used on City streets, these lights operate far outside the allowable limits of state and federal lighting for passenger vehicles."

Bullard cited concerns regarding public safety in announcing that officers will begin issuing citations to drivers who use light bars on Casper streets.

"We ask for cooperation in utilizing these devices in the places and manner for which they were designed," Bullard's statement concluded.
