Major League Baseball to Adopt Expanded Instant Replay in 2014

Major League Baseball is really embracing technology.

Commissioner Bud Selig has announced MLB will expand its use of instant replay next season.

The owners will vote on the decision in November. Players and umpires must also sign off on it, as well.

A staggering 89% of calls incorrectly made in the past will be allowed to go under review under the new system, in which managers will be granted one challenge to use for the first six innings and two from the seventh inning until the game ends.

If a challenge is not used within the first six innings, it will not carry over. Current replay rules regarding home runs will remain intact.

And if you think replay is destined to slow down the pace of the game, officials expect each replay will take 75 seconds.
