Don Mattingly, former manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was hired on Monday by the Miami Marlins.

Mattingly will be the Marlins seventh manager since 2005. He was given a four year contract.

The hiring was announced at a press conference at the team's ballpark Monday, after weeks of speculation that the team was hoping to name him their next skipper. Mattingly parted ways with the Dodgers after the team was eliminated from the postseason last month.

At the news conference, Mattingly said that he hoped to manage in Miami for ten years, and noted the team's "young, talented core."
