The Colorado Avalanche lost the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 Tuesday night in Detroit. Johan Franzen had a hat trick for the Red Wings. The Avs 7-7 on the road and have been much better on the road than at home where they have two losses on the road and just win at home.

The Avs start a eight game home stand Thursday night starting with the New York Islanders.

In Wyoming high school athletics, Buffalo Head Football Coach Pat Lynch has submitted his resignation after reports surfaced that he distributed an inappropriate flier to his players, a so called Hurt Feelings Report. Lynch had been the coach at Buffalo since 1998 and won two state titles in 2004 and 2005, and finished state runnerups four times. His career record was 97-41 but did not coach the team in their two 3A playoff games, a win at Star Valley and a semifinal loss this past Friday at Douglas. Lynch will retain his position as a guidance counselor at Buffalo High School under administrative supervision, according to a Casper Star-Tribune story.

The Cody Cross Country and Girls Track team that are coached by Scott Shaffer has been put on probation. The Wyoming High School Activities Association says that teams coached by Shafer will not be allowed to compete in the post season. So Shaffer will have to quit or get fired for Cody track teams to compete in the post season. Shaffer was cited for a behavioral incident in a cross country meet verus Douglas in Gillette on Sept. 9th, after a Douglas girl came in contact with a Cody girl during the race. Shaffer was cross country coach for 11 years and track for 10. The Cody's girls team is the defending state 3A champions and Shaffer was named Coach of the Year.

The Wyoming Cowboy basketball team will have their season opener this Saturday night in Laramie as they'll host Western State. The Pokes narrowly won their exhibition game over CSU-Pueblo last Saturday night 85-79. Paco Cruz led the Cowboys in scoring with 29 points.
