Cheyenne Drops First Game In Region Baseball Tourney-Daily Sports Update
Wyoming State Class AA Champion Cheyenne Post 6 lost their first game of the Class AA Northwest Regional Tournament to Bellevue, Washington 8-6 in Billings, Montana on Thursday afternoon. Bellevue pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts and scored two runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning to build an 8-5 lead.
Cheyenne (40-33) tied the game at 5 in the top half of the sixth, but Bellevue answered in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead. Post 6 was led by Zach Lain, who was 2 for 5 with two RBI. Rafer Cooley was 3 for 5 with one RBI and Cameron Johnson was 2 for 3 with one RBI and three runs scored. Cheyenne plays in loser-out action this afternoon.
Class A champion Wheatland will play their first game of the Northwest Regional tonight at 7:30pm when they take on the host team, Burley, Idaho. Wheatland enters the tournament with a 29-19 record.
Peyton Manning's first appearance with the Denver Broncos was brief and a bit uneven. Manning got intercepted near the goal line on the game's opening possession and watched from the sideline the rest of the way as Denver beat the Chicago Bears 31-3 in the preseason opener Thursday night.
In the London Olympics, the U.S. Women's Soccer team avenged one of its toughest losses by nipping Japan 2-1 to win the gold medal as Carli Lloyd scored both goals. The Americans had lost a heartbreaker to Japan last year in the Women's World Cut Final.
The U.S. Women's Basketball team goes for its fifth straight gold medal today at the Olympics. The American women are set to play France.
Usain Bolt is the world's fastest man in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The Jamaican flash won his second straight gold medal in the 200 meters just days after winning the 100 for the second straight Olympics.
