The Casper Oilers American Legion baseball team split a doubleader with Westco, Nebraska on Sunday. The Oilers won the opening game of the twinbill 17-4, thanks to 4 RBI's from Tanner Fischer.

The Oilers lost the nightcap 21-4 as they allowed 17 runs in the 4th inning and 12 of those were with no outs. But overall, Casper has played much better lately, climbing 2 games over .500. The Oilers will be at Laramie on Wednesday and host the George Tani Tournament later in the week.

The Casper Cutthroats collegiate baseball team will be at home tonight at Mike Lansing Field when they meet Fort Collins at 6pm. The Cutthroats are 10-7 overall and 9-0 at home after beating Laramie back on Saturday 13-9. The winning hit, walk off grand slam homer from Colt McLaughlin in the bottom of the 9th inning.

In Track and Field, Casper's Baillie Gibson was competing in the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon yesterday and did make the finals of the discus. Gibson finished 12th after a throw of 144 feet and 2 fouls. The top 3 finishers earned a bid to the London Olympics. She will also compete in the shot put.

In Major League Baseball, the Colorado Rockies wrapped up interleague play with a 4-2 road loss to the Texas Rangers. Texas pitcher Matt Harrison worked 5 scoreless innings for his 10th win of the year and his 6th win in a row. The Rockies finished interleague play with the worst record in the majors at 2-13. The Rockies will host Washington tonight at Coors Field in Denver.

And in the College World Series, Arizona defeated defending champion South Carolina 5-1 in Game-1 of the best of 3 championship series. South Carolina is looking to become the first three-peat national champions since USC did it in the 1970's. Arizona has not won a national baseball championship since 1986.
