The state 3A and 4A basketball tournaments concluded with the championship games on Saturday at the Casper Events Center. In the 4A boys, Evanston won their second straight defeating Riverton 54-50. The 4A girls went to Gillette crushed Cheyenne East 69-48. In the 3A boys Star Valley's Kohl Battleson hit the game winner with time running out to give the Braves a 41-39 win over Powell. And the Star Valley girls upset previously unbeaten Douglas 56-46 in the 3A title game.

The two Casper schools in the state wrapped up on Saturday afternoon at Erickson Gym at Casper College. The Kelly Walsh Trojans took third in the 4A boys with a 49-41 win over Gillette. And the Natrona Fillies lost to Sheridan 48-43 in the third place game in the 4A girls.

The Mountain West Conference Tournament opens up on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. The Wyoming Cowboys find themselves in the pig tail game as the 8th seed taking on Nevada Tuesday at 6pm. The Cowboys beat Nevada twice during the regular season. The winner plays top seed New Mexico on Wednesday at 7:30pm. The Wyoming Cowgirls are the 3rd seed and will play Colorado State on Thursday night at 9:30pm.

The Wyoming Cavalry indoor football team started the season with a thud on Saturday, losing to Cedar Rapids on the road 54-12. The Cavs managed just 89 yards of offense in the game and just 13 yards of offense in the first half. Cavalry quarterback Barney O'Donnell was 6 of 17 passing for just 71 yards and sacked 6 times. The Cavs are back on the road this Sunday to play Sioux Falls. Their home opener is March 29th when they host Colorado.

In the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche beat San Jose 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon. Matt Duchene scored as time expired in the overtime. The Avs have won 5 in a row at home to get to 10-10-4 on the season.
